Absentee ballot written requests will be accepted beginning on March 26, 2024 for the June 4, 2024 Primary Election.
In-person absentee voting will begin on May 15, 2024 and end on June 3, 2024.
Voters that want an absentee ballot mailed to them must submit a written absentee ballot request by May 20, 2024 by 5 p.m. to the Wapello County Auditor’s Office located at 101 W. 4th St., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
The deadline to return a voted absentee ballot is Election Day by 8:00 p.m. in the Wapello County Auditor’s Office.

Voter Pre-Registration Deadline: May 20, 2024 by 5:00 p.m.
The Wapello County Auditor’s Office will be open on June 1, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
To be qualified to vote, every elector must be registered to vote as required by Chapter 48A, Code of Iowa. This notice is given pursuant to the provisions of Sec. 49.53 and 49.73 Code of Iowa 2024. Special paper ballots will be used in this election and will be tabulated by DS200 voting machines.
Pre-registered voters are required to provide an approved form of identification at the polling place before receiving and casting a regular ballot. Voters who are not pre-registered – such as voters registering to vote on Election Day – and voters changing precincts must also provide proof of residence. A voter who is unable to provide an approved form of identification (or prove residence if required) 1) may have the voter’s identity/residence attested to by another registered voter in the precinct, 2) prove identity and residence using Election Day Registration documents, or 3) cast a provisional ballot and provide proof of identity/residence at the county auditor’s office by June 10, 2024 by 12:00 p.m. Election Day Registrant attesters must provide an approved form of identification.
