ABSENTEE BALLOTS

 SEPTEMBER 10, 2024 SPECIAL ELECTION

 

Absentee ballots may be cast at the Wapello County Auditor’s Office- 2nd Floor of the Wapello County Courthouse starting now until September 9, 2024.  Absentee ballots that were mailed to voters have a return deadline of 8:00 p.m. -Election Day in the Wapello County Auditor’s Office.

If you turned in a written absentee ballot request form  by the deadline of August 26th to have the ballot mailed to you, those ballots will be mailed out today.

Now – First day to submit absentee ballot requests.

August 26, 2024 by 5:00 p.m. – Voter pre-registration deadline & last day to submit a written request for an absentee ballot to be mailed.  

To vote in the Special Election one must be a U.S. citizen, be 18 years of age and also must be a resident of the Cities of Ottumwa, Eldon and Chillicothe, or live in Wapello County in the unincorporated areas or live in the Pekin School District.   

Vote centers will be used for this election.  Eligible voters can choose ONE center to vote at.  Listed below are the vote centers.

Voters can use the official Iowa absentee ballot request form, or write a request on a piece of paper (can't be smaller than an index card-regular size paper works best) and include the following information:

Voter’s name

Date of birth

ID Number (IA DL #, non-operator ID # or four-digit PIN #)

Residential address (Mailing address if different than residential address)

Election date

Signature and date

(A written request is required for each voter on separate pieces of paper)

Absentee ballots must be received in the auditor’s office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.  POSTMARKS DON’T COUNT.

The auditor’s office will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2024 for Labor Day.

 

Pre-Registered Voters, Voters who are registering on Election Day, Pending Voters and Voters Changing Precincts on election day will need to prove identity and residency by using one or more of the forms below.

Voter Eligibility Requirements:

Proof of Identity

Iowa Driver’s License or Iowa Non-operator’s ID (not expired more than 90 days)

U.S. Passport (not expired)

U.S. Military or Veteran ID (not expired)

Iowa Voter Identification Card (must be signed)

Tribal ID Card/Document (must be signed, with photo, not expired)

 

                             Proof of Residence

(must include name and current address and be current within 45 days; may be in an electronic format or on paper)

Residential lease         

Utility bill, including a cell phone bill

Bank statement

Paycheck

Government check

Other government document

Property tax statement (current within 45 days of final payment date)
