The Primary Election is an election to determine which candidates will qualify for the General Election for a given party. In Iowa you must be a member of the political party of which you wish to vote for in order to participate. This is known as a "closed primary." The primary election is held on the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in June of each even-numbered year.

Absentee Voting
Absentee ballots will be available starting May 18, 2022 for the June 7, 2022 Primary Election.
In-person absentee voting will begin on May 18, 2022 and end on June 6, 2022.
The Wapello County Auditor’s Office will be open on the following Saturday: June 4, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Voters that want an absentee ballot mailed to them must submit a written absentee ballot request by May 23, 2022 by 5 p.m. to the Wapello County Auditor’s Office.
The deadline to return a voted absentee ballot is Election Day by 8:00 pm in the Wapello County Auditor’s Office. Postmarks don't count.
